[ Found A Pet? ]
If you find someone’s dog, chances are they are looking for it. It is important to check for ID or Council registration tags, and call the number on those tags immediately.
If the pet is not wearing an ID or council tags you should call your local council and organise for a ranger to come and pick the dog up. If someone has lost their dog, one of the first places they will call is the Local council. If you don’t call the council and hold onto the dog, the owners have less chance of being reunited with their pet. Once the dog is at the pound, it will stay there for 8 days so the owners have a chance to find it. After the 8 days, you may be able to adopt the dog.
You can also check with people in your neighbourhood to see if they have lost a dog, and perhaps put up “found” posters in the area that the dog was found.
